Functional Title: Technology Specialist- Data Systems

Primary Function: Evaluate, design, and support data system enhancements. Transfer information as needed into electronic data systems. Research data sources to verify validity of the information. Be responsible for designing databases for specific client use and training clients in the use of data storage and retrieval systems, databases and software.
Major Duties:
- Analyze and Verify Data
Technology Specialists typically begin any data conversion process by conducting a thorough data analysis of a client’s information. Research data sources and make corrections to existing data as needed to ensure accuracy of the information being recorded. - Create a Digital Conversion Program
Analyze a client’s existing systems and create a program suitable for that specific system. In some cases, may design a database, process, or software program needed to convert data. - Generate Reports
Consistently provide reports regarding the progress of a conversion program to clients. Present reports covering workflow and workflow disruptions, exceptions, costs and analysis results. - Provide Technical Support and Assistance
Once a conversion project is complete, a Technology Specialist trains a client in the use of the database or software system. Maintain databases and answer any questions users might have regarding the system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
To successfully perform all required duties, a Technology Specialist must have strong analytical, problem solving and verbal and written communication skills. They should be detail-oriented individuals who can consistently meet deadlines and work well within a team environment. Strong planning, organizational and critical thinking skills are also beneficial. Be familiar with project management processes such as budgeting and scheduling. In addition to these skills, the following abilities are preferred:
- Analyzing data details and accuracy – ensuring that the data being converted is viable and accurate
- Evaluating existing databases and systems –verify that a client’s system is able to integrate and store data being converted
- Creating custom solutions –be prepared to customize databases and software to meet client data storage needs
- Confidentiality – Must have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Education and Experience:
Minimum of bachelor’s degree or two (2) years-experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience that is directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities gained through increasingly responsible positions within technology services.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:
- Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
- Required to regularly sit and stand.
- Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
- Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
- Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
- Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 25+lbs.
NOTE: All LCU employees are required to complete Title IX & Information Security (FERPA) training and Data Security Training at the time of new hire and on an annual basis thereafter. Some positions/departments may require additional training for security or data needs.
