Programs of Study: Middle School Education

The mission of the School of Education is to prepare creative and innovative professional educators with high moral and ethical standards who view themselves as agents of change with the understandings, attitudes, and skills necessary to be effective teachers committed to the welfare of children.  The curriculum provides academic preparation through coursework and practicum experiences that produces the region’s best educators.  Our graduates carry a reputation as exemplary Christian educators, and they are actively pursued by local school districts.  Always in high demand our most recent alumni have enjoyed a 100% employment rate when pursuing a job upon graduation.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Middle School Education prepares individuals to teach grades 4 – 8, and the curriculum is designed to focus on the specific needs of teaching this age group.  In addition to coursework focused specifically on the middle level grades, pre-service teachers will also have the opportunity to work with students in multiple field placements in all three Lubbock area school districts to provide a variety of experiences.  Candidates in our Middle School Education Program will specialize and certify in one of four teaching fields: math, science, social studies, or reading/language arts.
