The University Writing Center is an interdisciplinary student resource that offers free, individualized help with writing for any LCU undergraduate or graduate student. Students will work with trained student consultants to define goals for the consultation session. These sessions might include:
- deciding on a topic.
- clarifying and organizing ideas.
- researching, drafting, and revising.
- improving grammar, punctuation, and usage.
- citing sources properly.
Consultants will help you develop strategies to improve your writing. The assistance provided is designed to foster independence; therefore, you will determine how to use the consultant’s advice. We cannot guarantee better grades, nor do we solely proofread or edit essays for you; rather, we encourage you to take an active part in the consultation and become a more confident writer.
The University Writing Center is located in the north wall of the first floor of the library; this room formerly housed the library’s computer lab. Our location is comfortable and convenient, and we hope you will visit often.
Consultations are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. You can make an appointment by calling 806.720.7624 or you can simply come to our location. There is currently no online feature for scheduling your appointment. Your session will begin as soon as you have completed a brief intake form and as soon as a consultant is available.
Research shows that face-to-face consultations are best and offer the most opportunities for teaching and writing advice, so we do not currently offer online consultations.
Services are free to all undergraduate and graduate students. Consultation services are not currently available to online or off-site students.
You should bring writing questions, any assignment sheets or instructions from your professor, any work that has been done on the project so far, and any source materials that you are using for the assignment. Please bring a printed copy of your paper; if a printed copy is unavailable, you may bring an electronic version.
Most instructors are pleased to learn that their students have sought help on their own. At your request, we are glad to communicate with your teacher about your work with us. Otherwise, your visit will remain confidential.
