Lubbock Christian University (LCU) has selected the 2023-24 cohort of Cornerstone Scholars for the fall incoming freshman class. Each of the students selected for these prestigious scholarships demonstrates academic excellence, servant leadership, outstanding character, and unmitigated integrity.

The Cornerstone Scholars program offers a full-tuition scholarship to young men and women nominated by school counselors, youth ministers, teachers, or other important adults in the student’s life. These exceptional students were chosen because of their proven leadership and positive influence in their schools, faith communities, and in their local town or city.

After going through an extensive application and interview process, the following five incoming first-year students were selected as the fourth cohort of Cornerstone Scholars: Joseph Booe, from Lubbock, Texas; Alexandra Cannone, from Alexandria, Ohio; Matthew Duvall, from Amarillo, Texas; Rebekah McCord, from Graham, Texas; and Tia Moore, from Hotchkiss, Colorado.

LCU President Scott McDowell shared, “The whole vision for the Cornerstone program is to have a way to attract the most dynamic emerging Christian leaders that we can find to come join us on mission here at LCU. We've been successful in realizing that vision with our first 3 cohorts and I am thrilled to welcome the new group of freshmen Cornerstone Scholars to the mix. This is a stellar group with the broadest geographical representation so far. The bar is already set high, but I am confident that this cohort will make their mark in a very positive way at Lubbock Christian.”

The collective amount of service and activities these students participated in while in high school is quite extensive. Ranging from athletics to honor societies and from student leadership to community and church volunteers, each of these students have been living lives that demonstrate their commitment to leadership and service in their communities.
