Lubbock Christian University (LCU) will be livestreaming the final performance and the award presentation of Master Follies 2023: Blue Skies Ahead on Saturday, February 18.
For a minimum donation of $10 to support student scholarships, LCU families and friends who are unable to attend the live shows will be able to view the action from the comfort of their homes.
“For several years, we have created a live-stream of the award presentation during the final show,” shared Warren McNeill, Vice President of Public Relations. “When the pandemic prevented us from hosting large crowds in the McDonald Moody, we were able to keep the Master Follies tradition going when we live-streamed the entire show in 2021. We had people from all over the nation and the world subscribe to the live stream to see what had previously been available only for in-person viewing.”
Master Follies, LCU’s signature variety show held during Homecoming Weekend, is a musical production competition put on by the men’s and women’s social clubs on campus, with student hosts and hostesses emceeing the shows.
In 2021 the event was moved to a livestream-only format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following year, LCU welcomed live audiences back into the McDonald Moody Auditorium for the 2022 shows and continued offering a livestreaming option because of the great interest that was created the previous year.
Randal Dement, Vice President for Student Life, shared that hundreds of donations—including contributions from over 200 first-time donors—were made to LCU’s student scholarships from the virtual audience of alumni, student’s families, staff, faculty, and friends who watched the streaming option made available that second year for the 2022 production.
“Over 300 households tuned into the live show, and the McDonald Moody auditorium was almost sold out for the three in-person shows—which meant we had more people watching Master Follies that year than ever before,” Dement added.
Master Follies will take place on LCU’s campus as a part of the 2023 Homecoming Weekend. Tickets to all three shows are still available, with only 25 seats remaining for the final show. The link to sign up for the livestream is also live on the LCU website.
