Programs of Study: Economics

An economics degree provides the analytical skills desired by employers in areas such as banking and other financial services, management, consulting, and public service. The economics degree is considered excellent preparation for law school, and typically ranks high in terms of starting, mid-career, and median salaries as reported by such organizations as PayScale.com and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, and Georgetown’s Center for Education and the Workforce publication The Economic Value of College Majors (scroll to "Explore All Majors," then search for "Economics"). A wealth of information is also available through the American Economics Association’s Resources for Students, including:

At LCU, students seeking an economics degree can select a Business-focused path leading to the Bachelor’s of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree; students pursuing the B.B.A. degree satisfy traditional “Business Core” requirements in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and other business–related subjects.  Alternatively, economics majors can pursue the Bachelor’s of Art (B.A.) or Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) degree in which the student selects one of a large number of possible minors.  B.A/B.S. graduates have obtained minors in such diverse fields as Mathematics, Psychology, Biology, and Digital Media Arts & Applications.

Those interested in pursuing graduate work in economics, especially the Ph.D., are encouraged to minor in Mathematics.
