CARES Act HEERF

Lubbock Christian University confirms its participation as a recipient of funds available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund provision inherent in the CARES Act. Lubbock Christian University hereby acknowledges the university signed and submitted the certification agreement on April 13, 2020.

As of June 30, 2022, Lubbock Christian University has received $3,481,916 in CARES Act HEERF funds and has distributed $3,481,916 to students. Of the 3277 eligible students identified by the university for CARES Act HEERF funding, 1559 students received HEERF funding.

For a student to be eligible for CARES Act HEERF, the following criteria were applied for each student:

  • Enrolled for the fall 2020 semester for HEERF I funding.
  • Enrolled in one or more face-to-face course that was converted to remote instruction after March 13, 2020, for HEERF I funding.
  • Enrolled for spring 2021 semester for HEERF II funding.
  • Title IV eligible: Student met eligibility requirements including satisfactory academic progress standards and submitted 2020-21 FAFSA.
  • Graduated/Withdrawn status on or after March 13, 2020 Summer 2021 and Fall 2021, HEERF III funding.
  • State TEG GEERS (federal funding distributed through state) funded to students Fall 2021 subsequently returned to state as students were ineligible to receive funding, replaced with HEERF III funding, need based.
  • Enrolled for summer 2021 and fall 2021, HEERF III funding awarded in order of need.

In addition, students were required to affirm incurred expenses under allowable items in CARES Act, Section 484 and request funds via an electronic application link sent to the student’s LCU email address for HEERF I funding. Students were required to affirm whether or not they wanted HEERF II funding applied to their spring charges or distributed directly to them via check. Students were required to affirm whether or not they wanted HEERF III funding applied to their spring charges or distributed directly to them via check.

To facilitate this process, these students were provided an application “link” and guidance in their university email account with a subject line: COVID-19 Emergency Aid Application for LCU Students.

Furthermore, the university intends to use at least 50% of the received funds to provide emergency financial aid to students of the university.

As of June 30, 2021, Lubbock Christian University has received $1,422,450 in CARES Act HEERF funds and has distributed $1,422,450 to students. Of the 1915 eligible students identified by the university for CARES Act HEERF funding, 1453 disbursements have been made to students.
