my name is Madison shields I'm a sophomore and I'm pursuing a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on painting and drawing my favorite thing about the painting and drawing program here at LC U is the faculty that I get to work with I think that something really unique to LC U is the fact that the faculty know your name and they know your strengths and weaknesses and they're really able to cater the way that they teach you based off what you need and what would help you most I am a bachelor fine arts major and that kind of entails like a really vast majority of art whenever you're in the learning process so we cover just a little bit of everything and then focus on drawing and painting the steamroller printing was probably one of the coolest experiences I've had in Norfolk and LSU they like laid down these blocks of wood on the cement and then they put paper on top of them and then laid big carpets on them had a guy with a steamroller run over it and when you pulled it up you had these giant prints [Music] I got to go with the very first group who studied abroad in Spain and we had a blast while I was there I took an art history class and was able to learn about significant art pieces in history and then go and actually see them I went to three of the top five art museums in the entire world while I was there and saw art that I had only dreamed of saying the entire experience was wonderful but especially the fact that I got to go there and learn about what I am passionate about so I'm a graphic design major and LCU you take a lot of art classes if you are a graphic design and you'll take classes that are in all different fields so you'll do some ceramic classes and 3d some sculpture both digital art and like traditional art painting drawing which is really cool because you get exposed to like all these different types of art and if you're thinking like what does that have to do with graphic design why do I need to know how to mold a part out of clay or something it all goes into like the principles of design and putting everything together you have to know how to do things with your hands and in the real world before you can just do it on the computer [Music] while I've been here at LCU has been really interesting to see how much the department has grown when I was a freshman I really only thought of painting and drawing as in the art department and now I'm experiencing all these different mediums and different classes that I didn't even know existed and now I've learned like what appeals to me and what doesn't and LCU has that to offer
