Pre-Optometry

What do Optometrists do?

Optometrists examine the eyes and other parts of the visual system. They also diagnose and treat visual problems and manage diseases, injuries, and other disorders of the eyes. They prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed. Click here for a full description of what Optometrists do.

What is the job outlook?

Employment growth for optometrists is projected at 24 percent from 2016 to 2026, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Vision problems occur more frequently later in life.  Aging populations will likely increase demand for optometrists.
