Lubbock Christian University confirms its participation as a recipient of funds available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund provision inherent in the CARES Act.  Lubbock Christian University hereby acknowledges the university signed and submitted the certification agreement on April 13, 2020.  Furthermore, the university intends to use at least 50% of the received funds to provide emergency financial aid to students of the university.

As of May 14, 2020, Lubbock Christian University has received $711,225 in CARES Act HEERF funds and has distributed $336,350 to students. Of the 1,070 eligible students identified by the university for CARES Act HEERF funding, funds have been disbursed to 566 individual students.

For a student to be eligible for CARES Act HEERF, the following criteria were applied for each student:

  • Degree seeking.
  • Continued enrollment for the spring 2020 semester.
  • Enrolled in one or more face-to-face course that was converted to remote instruction after March 13, 2020.
  • Title IV eligible: Student met eligibility requirements including satisfactory academic progress standards and submitted a 2019-2020 FAFSA to receive federal financial aid prior to May 8, 2020.
  • Students receiving full academic or athletic scholarships were deemed ineligible.

In addition, students were required to affirm incurred expenses under allowable items in CARES Act, Section 484 and request funds via an electronic application link sent to the student’s LCU email address.

To facilitate this process, students were provided an application “link” and the following guidance in their university email account with a subject line:  COVID-19 Emergency Aid Application for LCU Students.

LCU has received its allocation of emergency aid funding made available under the Higher Education CARES Act.  This funding is available to LCU students who completed a 2019-2020 FAFSA and meet certain other criteria. If you have been identified as eligible to apply for this emergency aid funding, you can receive up to $650 on the first wave of funding, and possibly more thereafter.  This grant does not have to be repaid, and it will not affect your financial aid eligibility.  You can access the grant application form here. The application must be completed and submitted by 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020.  We urgently encourage you to apply for this funding so that we may assist you.   We will begin disbursing this aid immediately.
