Jorge Martinez started playing soccer at the age of three in the streets of Monterrey, Mexico. As he entered his teenage years, his friends became involved with gangs. Opposing gangs would associate Jorge with his friends’ gang, and Jorge would be beaten because of it many times on his way to school in Mexico. Wanting Jorge to have a better life, his mother moved him to Lewisville when he was in high school.
LCU recruiters discovered Jorge’s passion for soccer and asked him to play as a Chaparral.
Playing for LCU changed Jorge’s perspective on life. Jorge said he used to be an arrogant player, but after being around the example his coaches set, he now plays soccer to benefit his team, and he lives his life for God.
When he’s not at soccer practice, Jorge enjoys sharing his story with local high school students in hopes that they might turn their lives around, too.
While Jorge is still passionate about soccer, but LCU has helped him discover a new passion—changing lives.
