The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners states that the perception of detection is the number one internal control that can be implemented to prevent internal fraud. Whether controls are fully established or still developing, if they are perceived to exist, the perception of detection has increased and internal fraud can be prevented. Through education, targeted control processes, effective reporting, the modeling of ethical leadership and the existence of other physical controls, companies can efficiently implement processes that serve to raise the level of fraud awareness.
