After living the past 12 years in Lubbock, Kelli Childre and her family recently relocated to Austin, where she serves as LCU's Community Relations Officer for the Austin area. Her duties include connecting alumni, friends, and potential students to LCU as well as assisting the departments of University Advancement and Admissions with events and initiatives in the area. She is thrilled to "make Austin blue" and promote LCU!
Kelli is a West Texas native growing up in the small rural town of Floydada. Following her graduation from Texas Tech University with her bachelor's and master's degrees, she has been in the marketing and public relations field for over 20 years. Starting as an intern with the Texas Department of Agriculture, she resided in the DFW metroplex for 8 years. During that time she worked for Metromedia Restaurant Corporation in the Bennigan's marketing department and for Tom Thumb Food and Pharmacy as their Public Relations Manager. In 2002 she and her family relocated to Lubbock where she left the corporate world to be a stay-at-home mom. She joined the Lubbock Christian University Public Relations Department in 2005, where she served as the Director of Public Relations for 9 years. Her areas of expertise are external relations and event planning. Notable events she has produced include the Tom Thumb 50th Anniversary event at the former Reunion Arena in Dallas, LCU's 50th Anniversary Celebration, and LCU's benefit dinner series, "An Evening with..." keynoting General Colin Powell in 2007, former President George W. Bush in 2009, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in 2011. Other LCU events include a signature athletic event for LCU baseball featuring Josh Hamilton, the Presidential Inauguration for LCU's sixth president, L. Timothy Perrin, and an event for the LCU Foundation in Midland, TX featuring members of the Duck Dynasty family.
Kelli was an active community volunteer in Lubbock having served in leadership roles for the Junior League of Lubbock, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Texas Tech University's College of Human Sciences, and Sunset Church of Christ. She is looking forward to volunteering in the Austin community as well.
