Best Friends - Who We Are

Best Friends - Who We Are

Being a part of a nationally-touring, high-profile contemporary a cappella ensemble can be tough at times, but it is also incredibly rewarding, both experientially and spiritually. Before the fall 2017 semester began, 10 LCU students were selected through auditions to be a part of the 2017-2018 Best Friends group, a longtime staple of LCU's musical heritage.

In addition to its annual national tour, the group routinely travels across the southern states to sing for audiences in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and even the stars of Duck Dynasty in Louisiana. The group leads worship for retreats, churches, and summer camps, and also manages to find time to record a full-length album each year. But for all the time commitments, traveling, rehearsals, photo shoots and studio hours, each member of Best Friends (most majoring in fields other than music) maintains their own goals, dreams, and backgrounds.

Take a look beyond the stage and catch a snapshot of the members of the 2017-2018 Best Friends.

Carter Franks

Carter Franks

Part: Tenor
Classification: Freshman
Major: Music/Business
Hometown: Lubbock, TX

I'm a singer/songwriter and have a deep passion for music. I came to LCU because I wanted to put myself in a great spiritual and learning environment that I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. The wonderful classmates obviously care about what is being taught, and the teachers care about us on a personal and spiritual level, not a strictly "teacher-student" level. I have been very pleased with all of my experiences so far and can imagine that my experience here will only improve as I continue to grow.

Abbey Langford

Abbey Langford

Part: Soprano
Classification: Freshman
Major: Business Administration
Hometown: Lubbock, TX

My name is Abbey Langford, and I love organizing, learning, and everything music. This is my first year in Best Friends, and I could not be more excited for the coming months of worship! I think fellowship in Jesus Christ through song is one of the most beautiful things the Lord has to offer us. I came to LCU because I felt drawn to the community, and I am so thankful to be here. I am passionate about leadership, and hope to pursue a career in the business world where I can continue to learn how to lead effectively.

Nathan Hull

Nathan Hull

Part: Tenor/Baritone
Classification: Junior
Major: Communications
Hometown: Burleson, TX

My name is Nathan Hull, and I love to sing! This is my third year to be in Best Friends, and I love being able to sing with people who love it as much as I do. I came to LCU because I wanted to learn to be a leader and to grow my faith. I'm pursuing a career in ministry, so I hope one day to be a youth or worship minister!

Sadie Wheeler

Sadie Wheeler

Part: Soprano
Classification: Sophomore
Major: Pre-Veterinarian
Hometown: Seminole, TX

I came to LCU, because that has always been the plan for me. I love it here and am already not looking forward to saying goodbye to this school. At LCU I enjoy singing, sports, club activities, and the fellowship that goes into everything I do, including my daily classes. Go Chaps!

Jackson Setliff

Jackson Setliff

Part: Bass/Vocal Percussion
Classification: Senior
Major: Exercise Sports Science/Pre-Nursing
Hometown: Lubbock, TX

To be honest, I came to LCU because my dad went here. I grew up hearing all these stories about this amazing university, and I wanted a chance to join in those stories and even make some of my own. I love to sing. I've now been in Best Friends for three years, and being in this group has brought me so much joy and purpose.

Tori Acosta

Tori Acosta

Part: Alto
Classification: Junior
Major: Biology/Pre-Med
Hometown: Seminole, TX

I love Best Friends, because it not only allows me to pursue both of my passions, medicine and music, but I get to use my gifts to glorify Him. My goal is to one day become a Radiation Oncologist. Outside of class, I enjoy working out and spending time with loved ones. I enjoy attending LCU, because it feels like a home away from home, and the faculty are always willing to help students succeed.

Cameron Insilan

Cameron Insilan

Part: Tenor
Classification: Senior
Major: Music Education
Hometown: Lovington, NM

I have been in Best Friends for four years. Singing has always been a part of my life, and I hope to inspire others to enjoy singing as a choir teacher someday. In my free time, I prefer to sleep, but if I'm being honest, I'm actually probably studying. I have had the opportunity to participate in just about every musical ensemble that LCU offers (excluding jazz band), and honestly this group has been the most life-changing experience of my college career.

Lacy Chappell

Lacy Chappell

Part: Alto
Classification: Junior
Major: Pre-Occupational Therapy
Hometown: Snyder, TX

My name is Lacy, and I love doing anything creative! This is my second year in Best Friends, and I love being given the opportunity to worship Him all the time with some of my favorite people. In the future, I hope to finish my masters in Occupational Therapy and use my degree to serve the people of inner-city Phoenix, Arizona.

Michael Peschell

Michael Peschell

Part: Bass
Classification: Senior
Major: Mathematics
Hometown: North Richland Hills, TX

I am proud to say that this is my fourth and final year to be in Best Friends. It's been an incredible journey filled with making new friends and relationships. I hope to become a meteorologist in the near future, after a ridiculous amount of schooling, of course. I enjoy playing tennis, guitar, and I also enjoy hanging out with my friends!

Jeremiah Branch

Jeremiah Branch

Part: Sound Technician
Classification: Freshman
Major: Music Education
Hometown: Shallowater, TX

Ever since I was child, I've had an enormous fascination with music. I would live and breathe it, even when my parents thought it was a little over the top. My family and I would always try to make time to jam when we hung out, and I remember those being some of the most meaningful times I've had with my family. It is because of this I want to be able to teach music to others. Not only for the notes that coalesce to form a song, but for the overall bonding experience that comes with it!
