Position: Assistant or Associate Professor of Education, tenure-track, eleven-month appointment

College of Education:

The LCU College of Education offers bachelor’s degrees in Elementary, Middle School, and Secondary Education, and master’s degrees in educational leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, and Special Education and is in the process of developing a doctoral program. Our graduates are highly sought after in public and private K-12 programs. Our undergraduates completing degrees in education consistently achieve a placement rate near 100%, while one out of every three academic leaders in Region 17, a 20-county area composed of 57 public College districts surrounding Lubbock, have completed their graduate education at LCU. The LCU College of Education is accredited by the Texas Education Agency Educator Certification and Standards (TEA) as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)

Qualifications:

The College of Education seeks a highly qualified educator/scholar to contribute to continuing excellence in our graduate education programs. The successful candidate will have the capability and desire to teach both graduate courses in education and serve in a pivotal position in developing the proposed doctoral program. The LCU College of Education seeks faculty who can contribute to the mission of preparing creative and innovative professional educators with high moral and ethical standards who view themselves as agents of change and who are committed to the welfare of all learners and have the understandings, attitudes, and skills necessary for effective teaching.

An earned doctorate in education is required. A minimum five years of certified teaching experience, five years principal experience, and five years superintendent experience in public and/or private schools; a valid teacher, principal, and superintendent certificate; and strong leadership experiences, are expected. All qualified applicants must be a professing Christian and active church member willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university. Preference granted to active members in the Church of Christ.

Major Responsibilities:

Applicants must be committed to graduate education and show the promise of becoming an exceptional professor who values mentoring and advising students. The primary purpose of this position is to continue development, approval, and launch of the proposed Education Doctoral program. A normal teaching load is twenty-four credit hours per contract year. Scholarly activity, service, and other duties as assigned are also expected of the successful applicant.

Lubbock Christian University is a private, doctoral-level university as classified by the Carnegie Foundation. Founded in 1957 and located in Lubbock, Texas, LCU is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. LCU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Colleges Commission on Colleges and is a member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities.  Currently, 85 full-time faculty members serve approximately 1560 undergraduate and graduate students on the LCU campus located in west Lubbock. Lubbock is a vibrant city with a population of about 300,000. Lubbock is the educational, medical, retail and entertainment center of the southern high plains of Texas.
