Functional Title: Admissions Advisor — Dallas/Ft. Worth Region
Classification: Salaried position; Exempt
Division: Enrollment Management — The mission of enrollment management is to recruit and retain students.
Department: Admissions/Provost — The mission of Admissions is to recruit qualified students.
Reports To: Director of Admissions
Primary Function: Recruit academically qualified new students to enroll at Lubbock Christian University, advise them in selection of an academic field of study, and assist in preparing initial academic scheduling, primarily for incoming freshmen students.

Major Duties:

Based in Dallas / Ft. Worth, the Admissions Advisor will exercise control and assume responsibility to establish successful recruiting and advising relationships with prospective students throughout the DFW territory. The Admissions Advisor will represent the university to them, advise them academically, and advise them fiscally. The Admissions Advisor will help prepare academic schedules appropriate to each student’s chosen field of study, in addition to communicating the steps necessary for successful admission into LCU. The Admissions Advisor primarily performs non-manual work directly related to recruiting qualified students and preparing, in conjunction with each academic department, academic class scheduling, especially for incoming freshman.  Recruiting and academically advising students is a matter of significance to the university and the position requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct church visits within territory to recruit students to select Christian education and attend Lubbock Christian University.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct school visits. Develop recruiting and academic/financial assistance advising events with schools that show high probability of providing students.
  • Represent LCU at various college fairs held within territory.
  • Spend at least one hour per week reviewing contacts for applicants and prospects who have sent us academic documents within territory. Based on this review, plan future contacts.
  • Personally meet with or establish telephone contact with each applicant within territory at least one time per month.
  • Send email(s), text messages or personal letter to each applicant at least one time per month.
  • Make at least 100 screening calls per week to develop prospects within territory. Screening calls must be made after prospective students are most likely home from school during the evenings or on weekends.
  • Plan, coordinate, and send emails to prospects within territory at least one time per month.
  • Construct and send written correspondence to at least 20 prospective students per week.
  • Review academic documents provided daily by the Admissions Officer and advise each prospective student about future academic possibilities and degree requirements.
  • Personally contact or telephone each prospective student who sends an academic document within 24 hours of receipt. Advise prospective student of score received, transcripts received, admission criteria satisfied, and scholarship level(s). If student did not do well enough for acceptance, advise prospect of next steps to become accepted.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor student contacts within territory.
  • Continually review academic admission requirements and potential financial assistance to maintain expert knowledge of the enrollment process.
  • Receive phone inquiries from prospects, answer questions, and provide advice to help prospects successfully complete the admissions and financial assistance process.
  • Advise parents, students, and prospective students regarding academics and financial assistance. 
  • Schedule campus visits for prospective students and their families. Conduct high quality campus visits while in Lubbock for monthly recruiting events.
  • Monitor and grow application count for territory through personal attention and innovative recruiting techniques.
  • Be prepared to help recruit and enroll prospective transfer, readmit, and non-traditional students as needed.
  • Assist current and prospective students with academic scheduling issues and advise students regarding degree requirements of each students’ chosen field of study.
  • Directly work with students in conjunction with faculty advisors to facilitate accurate and timely academic counseling and course scheduling.
  • Directly work with students on academic advising, including the preparation of specific course scheduling, especially with respect to incoming freshmen.
  • Travel to Lubbock for monthly campus based recruiting events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required: The Admissions Advisor must:

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of admissions criteria, academic policies, fields of study offered by LCU, degree requirements, class scheduling, and financial assistance procedures.
  • Demonstrate academic and financial knowledge sufficient to advise parents, students and prospective students especially with respect to the academic requirements.
  • Be a team player who looks for ways to continuously improve the effectiveness of the Admissions office and recruiting/advising.
  • Be a self-driven individual with the ability to work responsibly, on and off campus, while communicating effectively with the Admissions office.
  • Accomplish the mission through proactive constructive teamwork.
  • Not divulge or discuss information about possible university plans, goals, funding levels, or salary levels unless authorized by university executive officials.
  • Not divulge or discuss information about prospective students to anyone outside the university community in compliance with FERPA laws.

Accountability: The Admissions Advisor is supervised by the Director of Recruiting but must:

  • Maintain conduct consistent with Christian values and the values of the university.
  • Work with other university personnel to ensure that overall enrollment goals are met.
  • Work closely with the Provost and academic deans to create proposed academic scheduling.
  • Work closely with other team members to provide excellent academic advising.
  • Work responsibly from home.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to advise students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner.
  • Bilingual preferred; but not required.
  • Knowledge of higher education academic requirements and financial issues.
  • Strong ability to multitask and problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential.
  • Ability to drive.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required. Communication, marketing, sales, psychology or business preferred but not a must.

Physical Requirements: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following: 

  • Must be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 25+lbs.
